An exhibit titled “The Open Sea” at the Monterey Bay Aquarium has an interesting back story.
David Packard, the Co-Founder of Hewlett-Packard Information Technology Company, established the initial funding for the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Monterey, California, USA, in 1984 for his daughter, Julie Packard who is a Marine Biologist. She now serves as the aquarium’s Executive Director.
The aquarium is located on a site formerly known for sardine manufacturing where they processed, and packaged sardines at the Sardine Cannery on Cannery Row.
If you have never visited the aquarium here are a few pictures I took.
“The Open Sea” exhibit is a jaw dropping spectacle. As you enter, and walk through there are great displays, then you turn a corner to be faced with a huge ceiling to floor aquarium enclosure.
Worth a visit to see for yourself.
“Mission is to inspire conservation of the ocean.”
